Taste wine in a city on water!

The Venetian Vine

Learn, taste and experience the wines of the Serenissima..... and beyond.

What do you mean “Venetian” wine? Is there such a thing?

In this city of San Marco, wine has always been more popular than water. In fact, the local bàcari (wine bars) serve an average of 50,000 glasses of wine every day!

This is not your everyday cabernet. The wines Venice enjoys today come from all over the Tri-Veneto region, and beyond – many produced from native grape varieties imported centuries ago from the island of Crete, Greece, the Dalmatian coast, and cultivated over time to bring out their best qualities. These extensive vineyards have became a pervasive feature of the Tri-Veneto landscape (Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, and Friuli Venezia-Giulia), and the extraordinary variety of wines they produce a staple in regional cuisine. In fact, the Veneto alone produces more than 53 million gallons of wine every year – more than any other region in Italy!

The Venetian Vine goes far beyond the everyday wine tasting. Your trained specialist and sommelier will introduce you to some of the best wines the Tri-Veneto has to offer (and some from beyond these lands for comparison) – focusing on native varieties – while passing along some of the most enlightening, practical, and thoroughly unintimidating wine information you\'ll find anywhere.

You will be doing your part during the session, of course! You will share your individual sensations and impressions to discover how they communicate the true spirit of the wine and land it comes from. You learn of fascinating historical and defining characteristics along with the whys and wherefores of the matching with local food. We will also point you to the best Venice bottle shops where you can purchase reasonable priced wines for drinking, stowing on the plane, or shipping home.

Each two-hour tasting will be held in the late afternoon in a typical “osteria” or wine bar, chosen specifically for the quality of the wines and food products. Because we want you to really get a sense of the variety of wines available, you will sample six different wines, served with paired appetizers.

The Venetian Vine includes:

  • Two hour tasting of six different wines, chosen according to quality, theme and season

  • Fresh Gourmet “cicheti” - appetizers of fish, cheese or meats - prepared fresh to pair with the wines served.

  • Accompanying materials to help you remember and relate to the wine and food served.

You can partake of The Venetian Vine in one of two ways:

  • Small group tasting – minimum two, maximum six people. We keep this group small enough to enjoy each others    company and still allow for plenty of personal attention.
    • Cost is €70 per person, due in cash at time of tasting (we can also accept credit cards, but we must add a service fee for a total €75 per person).
  • You can also request a Private tasting, more specialized and entirely tailor made, designed for you only! Times and prices available once the parameters for your tasting are established, just let us know what you have in mind.

    • Private tastings available for the minimum two person payment; please write to request tastings for larger groups.

Please check the dates of the calendar and send us a request. We cannot wait to introduce you to the engaging world of “Venetian” wine!
